The Breakwater Bistro is nestled on the beach at the edge of the picturesque Brixham marina on the South west coast path. It has been utilised by sailors, walkers, divers, beachgoers and families for many years as welcome place to get a snack and cup of tea. However, after a total revamp by new owner Lee Tyroll, the Breakwater Bistro now has a new look and new name - The Breakwater Bistro and Art gallery.
This little gem boasts a Mediterranean style cafe and restaurant with an atmosphere and menu to match. In fact you really could be forgiven in thinking that you are on the Italian or French Riviera as you sit on the balcony and sip your drink, sample the sumptuous local food such as paella, king prawns or succulent steak and look out onto a beautiful sunset over Torbay.
It is no accident that the new owners of 'The Breakwater Bistro' collaborated with 'The Shoal of Brixham Artists' to produce a permanent base for these talented professionals. In an idyllic symbiosis , the bistro gets the walls on both floors adorned with the beautiful works of 'The Shoal' and 'The Shoal' gets to showcase their work together to make a strong statement that they really are, in terms of culture, the artistic 'Tour de force' of Brixham.
Both parties are keen to lift the profile of this popular Devonshire fishing village, with a vision that Brixham will eventually rival the Cornish St. Ives. By providing an oasis in what has once been described as a 'cultural desert'
, these nine or so artists and the staff of the Breakwater are working hard to realise this vision.
The Breakwater can be contacted on 01803 856738 for bookings and menu details. Parking is right on the beach next to this picturesque venue, and it is open all year from 10am ~ 5pm and most evenings.
